Hello gatewayians.
Cat Grant here. Still recovering but at least at home now. Many thanks to all the well wishes, flowers, gifts, and cards. It warms my heart that so much of my adopted city really values what I bring no only as EIC but for our shared water cooler experience. So here is everything you need to know in easily digestible catbites.
1. The final day of the security summit is finically here. With dignitaries galore. Key note speaker will be the President himself. I am glad I already have my invitation.
2. New development for old Chinatown is scheduled to begin this week. In addition to knocking down old tenement housing they will also be taking down the fire gutted bizarre, which had been home to many shops including a cute little curiosity shop. New luxury high rises are set to go up after demolition is complete.
3. Former Mayoral candidate and Super hero Rachel Fury has conceded the race despite major electoral inconsistencies. Princess Thalia, her formal Title and name, withdrew her objections late last night despite an ongoing justice department investigation into the election. Mayor elect Thorne has commended her and said he is planning on moving forward and looks forward to the new term.

Meanwhile Grandfather has been actively heroing in Chinatown and with Black Diamond put out a fire with a water tower that ended up hurting people. Rachael returns four days later but doesn’t say anything before heading to the Vault. She loads up a trolley with Amazonian weapons and loads up a van. We challenge her and spar with her. She keeps calling Orichalcum “Quantum” and can’t name the rest of us. She says Shaw told her they need to arm Shaw’s men because Checkmate and DEO forces are about to attack the President during his keynote speech. Shaw on the phone with Quantum confirms this. Rachael has a weird quantum signature about her but otherwise reads normal except Akasha mind reads her to find she keeps thinking “quantum.”
Quantum disrupts Rachael’s quantum signature, and she turns into a silver humanoid that tries to reinitialize and flees. Orichalcum reloads the weapons in the vault, while the rest of us pursue. She catches up with us in the jet. Quantum contacts Commissioner Hall to warn him of the impending attack on the President at the conference.
The silver humanoid flies to a mountain and enters a hidden passage that Orichalcum is able to hack open. It’s a large base, and the creature has returned to a cradle. Professor Ivo is working on the computer next to it. There’s a Leviathan symbol on the floor. Achilles tries shooting Ivo, but the arrow shatters on him. Ivo activates an alarm. Achilles shoots the computer he’s working on, starting a fire that threatens other cradles that have naked Rachael, Sarge Steel, King Faraday, and an older woman [Quantum’s mother] in them. Orichalcum extinguishes the flames and tries to shield the vulnerable hostages. Akasha summons wild cats to fight guards.
Ivo tries to escape, but Achilles grapples him. Quantum goes down in a hail of gunfire. Most of the guards are either incapacitated or flee through the portal before Akasha closes the portal, though one guard manages to hit the self-destruct button. Orichalcum grabs the cradles, Achilles grabs Ivo, and Akasha grabs the bleeding Quantum, and they all flee before the base implodes.
Outside, they’re met by Amazo. Achilles throws Ivo down to distract Amazo while the team flees retreat to the jet and depart. Amazo catches Ivo, but the team is gone with the hostages. In the jet, Achilles tries to treat Quantum’s bullet wounds by digging each one out with a large dagger. He stuffs a leather strap from his skirt into Quantum’s mouth to stop Quantum’s screams as he continues digging out bullets until Quantum passes out from pain. Back at the Embassy, Orichalcum puts him under an Amazonian purple ray along with the hostages.
The rest of the team then flies toward the convention to guard the President but are intercepted by Checkmate. The team explains what happened and are taken to Black Bishop Sasha Bordeaux and explain again before rushing to the President where he’s speaking with [fake] Quantum mother, Sarge Steel, and King Faraday on stage with him. The fakes are about to make their move on the President.
Achilles shoots the fakes while Orichalcum scoops up the President to take him to safety. Akasha tries a delusion attack that doesn’t work against the androids. Alan Scott appears and grabs Faraday. Achilles slices through Sarge Steel, exposing him as a robot. Orichalcum and Checkmate get the President to safety. The rest of the team is then able to take out Quantum’s mother [General Pershing]. Akasha spots a Manhunter that escapes.
The team returns to the Embassy to find Quantum awake. Orichalcum examines the cradles, which she confirms will quantumly pair a robot with the hostage and allow it to copy their mind. Rachael was semi-conscious and was able to send us the word “quantum” as a clue. Shaw calls Quantum and tells him that he thought they were on the same side with dissatisfaction over the secret intelligence forces running the government. Shaw says he’s going to “skip ahead a couple of steps.”
Meanwhile alerts come in that a treasure trove of US secrets have been uploaded to the internet under headlines of Task Force X, CBI, and army intelligence—thousands of files—brought to the people by the patriots of Leviathan.
Shaw texts Quantum that there’s a present for him on the Embassy porch—a package of new identities for him so that he can start a new life when Steel et al. wake up and remember he kidnapped them. The different services come and take away the three other victims. Nightshade confronts the team when coming for Sarge Steel, and the team explains what happened including Shaw’s involvement. Quantum turns the false identities over to her as well.
Alan Scott arrives to talk to Achilles and thank the group for their help. He’s asked the President to issue a pardon to Quantum since he was a dupe in this matter. Quantum has been fired from the intelligence community and is persona non grata. Achilles asks if Scott has any knowledge of blue rings and tells him of more rings coming. Scott promises to put Hal Jordan in contact with Achilles.
