DC Modern - Season 2 - Episode 7 - 4/24/23

Hello again Gatewayians.  Still does not ring true and we will put a pin in that.  It is your EIC, that is Editor in Chief, Cat Grant.  Here is everything you need to know to be on top of world events.  As always there are in small, easy to understand, and dare I say witty, bites.  You can be on top of world events and only have to spend 3 minutes getting caught up.

1. Our Mayor race is heating up as we approach the final leg and polls show a dead heat between local Developer Johnny Thorne and our Hometown Hero Dr Tripod.  Anemically behind is our newly crowned "Amazon Princess" Storm, or as we, here in the office, call her Princess Butterface.  Her numbers are so low her IQ might actually be higher.

2. October is here and it is a time for Hipsters and GenZers to get their fake pumpkin flavor on and start wearing sweater vests.  But October also promises great news worthy items as Dr. Tripod has hinted he has an October surprise that is sure to win him the Mayorship.  Will what ever scandal he drops be enough to knock out Thorne, the only real threat he has, from the race?

3. In Legal news the intellectual property trail of the century is set to begin this week.  Hometown "hero" Achilles has accusing Dr Tripod, Gateway City's favorite son, of stealing his famous Song of Heroes; while Dr Tripod is countersuing for  Slander and damages to his name and reputation, as well he should.  I predict a short trail, all they need to do is get Himbo up on the stand and see if he can string a dirty limerick together much less a great work of Modern writing as Tripod's Song of Heroes.

And there it is, all you need to know on this blustery October Day.  We will continue to bring you all the breaking news and items of worth here at Catbites.

Rachael’s reply:

When asked about the most recent issue of "Cat Bites", mayoral candidate Rachael Storm responded with the following video statement.

Cat Grant has had a long history of being one of the best journalists in the industry behind that of the legendary Lois Lane of the Daily Planet. I am disappointed that rather than respond with insightful criticisms of my campaign and policies, she must resort to personal insults in an attempt to achieve the ratings numbers her corporate shareholders require. That being said, one of the most important precepts upon which the United States is based is the right of free speech and the responsibilities it entails. She is more than welcome to continue her banal observations and I commend her for her work and hope that we see a higher quality of discourse from her office. As to my personal appearance, *Rachael smirks*, it has been said I have a face for radio.

At breakfast, Ferdinand announces that Funky Flashman is here. He reports that he made Rachael’s response above so viral by sending it to reporters with the heading “Storm pictures naked!” She’s been invited to participate in the mayoral debate tomorrow. He think the October surprise promised has something to do with Thorne’s redevelopment plan for Chinatown. Debate prep work to come. He’s planning to have a disguise for Achilles for him to remain close while not being arrested for violating the restraining order.

Quantum looks up Thorne’s plan, which is to tear down Chinatown to rebuild new developments with some affordable housing. Grandfather’s shop is at the center of where a new high-rise will go. Orichalcum finds from her father that the shop is condemned and there’s an offer to buy it for $15,000. He plans to accept, but she convinces him not to. Quantum and Orichalcum work to discover the residents of Chinatown who haven’t accepted the buy-out yet. Property has been bought by company named New Horizons, which now owns about 75-80% of Chinatown. Company links back to a Gotham corporation once owned by Rupert Thorne and reorganized from a company of Horizons but with the same board, all of whom tied to Gotham’s mob. Thorne Jr. not on the list. Owner is listed as a blind trust fund. Rachael gives Orichalcum the funds to buy up remaining Chinatown property.

Thomas comes in and says that he and Flamebird had a break-through on building a device to reset their vibrations to shunt them back home.

Ferdinand delivers a package from New York to Achilles. Inside is a preserved human heart in a small glass box with a love poem about Achilles etched in Greek in the glass.

Quantum gets a call from Shaw with a meeting time and place for tonight.

Black Diamond/Eclipse arrives for lunch. He talks about Dr. Tripod’s plan to remove corruption from the city. He heralds Dr. Tripod’s new ad airing tonight. He goes to visit Flamebird but hastily leaves, singed.

Quantum goes to his meeting and gets info about the next target who’s been replaced by a “clone.” It’s the White King of Checkmate—Alan Scott. Achilles offers to talk to Donna and Mr. Terrific to see if they can help us. Neither is available.

Funky tries to put Achilles in disguise, but Achilles repeatedly refuses. He provides the debate questions before leaving. Rachael wants to fire him and tries to figure out how. Achilles suggests replacing him with Orichalcum, but Grandfather volunteers. Orichalcum refuses and Rachael makes Grandfather a special advisor.

Achilles tries to use the Orb to see if Alan Scott has been replaced but finds nothing.

At the debate, Flashman positions Achilles outside the restraining order, while the rest are closer in. Intro video of Thorne talks about revitalizing downtown by removing blighted areas. Tripod’s video says he’ll excuse people from work on their bad hair days and abolish taxes. Rachael’s video shows her as a princess of the people endorsed by Wonder Woman.

During the debate, Rachael notices a sniper in the rafters aiming for Thorne. She takes the bullet, and then Achilles grapples the shooter and turns him over to the police as the crowd panics. Rachael instructs Eclipse to secure Thorne and Tripod, and he departs with them. Quantum works crowd control. Another fellow is heading toward Rachael and sets off a suicide vest while yelling, “For Chinatown.” She smothers most of the explosion. Quantum tries to protect kids in the crowd, which is caught by a photographer. Achilles follows Eclipse to make sure the others get home safely while the others help the crowd.

In the morning, Flashman tells Rachael she’s in the lead, followed by Thorne, and Tripod falling fast. She tells him that she’s “promoting” him. He’s not happy. Achilles suggests contacting Oliver Queen, who is mayor of Star City. He recommends his old campaign manager Alex Davis, who teleports over via the JL teleporter tube in the basement we didn’t know we had.

News announcement reports that Dr. Tripod has been found killed in his penthouse apartment by a dagger.
