DC Modern - Spring Holiday Special - 1/15/24

 Hello Gatewayians,

Cat Grant here with everything you need to know in small bite sized amounts so as not to overload your day.

As we enter full on spring and the start of April I thought it best that we check in with our home town's current events.

1.  Recent massive gang bust was done by the Achilles & The Myrmidons.  Over 200 gang members we taken into custody and charged with various crimes ranging from disorderly conduct all the way to aggravated assault.  Most are out on bail and awaiting trail.

2. Former Police Commissioner Hall legal troubles keep mounting.  The New Police Commissioner Angus Miller made an announcement earlier today that his office was referring the delayed response time for 911 calls to the DA's office.    The DA's office only said that the district Attorney would announce any formal charges against Hall later this week.

3. To celebrate their 3rd anniversary in Gateway Mayor Thorne has announced Myrmidon Day complete with a parade for our heroes, a Key to the city Ceremony, and a carnival.  It will be held later in April and will be free to the public.  No word yet if our heroes will actually attend.

And there you have it.  Nothing over the top this week but hey sometimes things are just quiet at home.  And we should thank our lucky stars.

Cat Grant

The team’s morning starts with SuperFriends-esque narrations that everyone hears to their perplexment:

Gathered together from the side streets of Gateway City, here in this repurposed Embassy of Peace, are the most middling forces of Good ever assembled! (Shots of all our heroes flying around.)

  • Achilles (Brooding in his Room sharpening his weapons)
  • Hawkgirl (Flying through the air and then arcing up to face forward at the camera)
  • Princess Rachael (Holding the Gateway bridge up)
  • Akasha and Quantum (Flying in the invisible jet smiling at camera)

And those 3 junior super heroes

  • Orichalcum (Armored up leading the three on tiptoes sneaking)
  • Black Diamond (Looking sheepish as Orichalcum tells him to shush)
  • Grandfather (A floating assemblage of fake diamonds)
Dedicated to Courage, Temperance, and Kindness for all Mankind!

Orichalcum, Black Diamond, and Grandfather are involved in “Tiger on the Loose.” A TroubleAlert sends them to the zoo because of an escaped tiger. They recapture the tiger, and the zoo official insists that they take a teenage girl into custody, claiming she let it out. Orichalcum discovers that the cage opened because of shoddy maintenance.

Hawkgirl gives a safety advisory on checking enchiladas for bones to prevent choking.

Hawkgirl and Princess Rachael are in the “Tale of the Giant Cobra.” A cobra has appeared in an Indian village outside of Gateway City, and the people need a special cobra antivenom in the Cobra Temple. There, a 20-foot cobra menaces the heroes. They subdue the cobra and gather its venom for the antivenom serum.

Achilles in a health advisory warns children about not playing with their parents’ weapons.

Achilles and Akasha face “Attack of the Killer Bees” in an African village near Gateway City where a swarm of killer bees attack. Achilles spins his spear to blow them away from the villagers while Akasha tries to control them with his mental powers.

Princess Rachael teaches a magic trick with a coin, a cup, and a piece of permission.

All of the Myrmidons then deal with the “Attack of the Animal People.” Animal-headed people attack Gateway City, and the Myrmidons are summoned. Achilles tells the junior members to stay behind. Achilles uses his Spear of Chiron to transform a person back to normal. Another call about animal people at the docks comes in that the junior members respond to.

Orichalcum does a craft presentation about making paper airplanes.

Meanwhile, the battles with the animal people continue. The team theorizes that a little girl who has been at every encounter is the cause of all the problems. Akasha probes her mind, but nonsense floods his mind. Hawkgirl thinks that Circe is behind this. Once the downtown beasts are taken care of, the team joins the junior members at the docks to help there. Meanwhile, Black Diamond and Grandfather are captured by Circe.

Akasha teaches first aid to the little girl who hurt herself with a kitchen knife.

The Myrmidons search for Circe and find her. She transforms Black Diamond and Grandfather into a porcupine and Peking duck respectively. Circe is as confused as we are, mentioning this is her revenge on us (though we’ve never met her), but she still transforms Akasha into a cat and Achilles into a boar. Achilles drops his spear, and Hawkgirl tries to grab it. She uses the Spear of Chiron to return Achilles to normal after Orichalcum wrestles him to the ground. Circe flees, and Achilles transforms the others back.

The team is back in the Embassy with the little girl who reveals herself as April’s Fool, an imp from the Fifth Dimension. She wanted friends like the other imps have. (She didn’t include Quantum because he’s not appropriate for a kid’s cartoon.) She leaves, promising to come back next year.
