DC Modern - Session 14 (10/12/20)

With Cat Grant on vacation this week I will be handling your catbites.  Who am I, you might ask, to be given such lofty responsibility?  I am her Intern Penelope.  Please no pitstop jokes.  Trust me I have heard them all before.  So without further delay here is everything you need to know about the news in easily digestible bites.  Penelopebites as it were.

There have been lots of fires in the past few days.  Firefighters are stumped at the cause.  Lots of things have burned down.

Several people have been arrested.  Some have done bad things, others were going to do bad things, and still others are just caught up in a corrupt system.  Damn I don't have a third point.

This week's weather is expecting to be hot.  Possibly cool.  Easily answerable by looking out your front door or window.

And there you have it!  Everything you need to know about the news here in Gateway.  Cat Grant will be back next time.  Until then have a great week!!

Achilles and Thomas spar, and the former gets his ass kicked. Fortunately, Rachael reports a huge fire at a warehouse, and we all go to help. Things go well until Quantum and Achilles decide to stop and just admire the fire. Rachael snaps them out of it, and the team continues fighting the fire and rescuing people. In rescuing a firefighter, Orichalcum is smitten with him, while Quantum develops a fear of firefighters. Achilles figures out it’s the Rainbow Raider and helps the others break the spell. The group loses track of the Raider but puts out the fire.

The team starts investigating the fire and the warehouse. The arson seems to be the result of a flamethrower and doesn’t seem to have any purpose. Heat Wave working with Rainbow Raider? Firefly and Firebug also possibilities, though both connected to Gotham. But there was a breakout at Arkham last week, and both the pyromaniacs were among the escapees. Heat Wave also recently escaped from Iron Heights.

The two other fires in Gateway seem to be just pure arson with no other clear motive. All three fires were in isolated areas, with clear line of sight from the area and few people around. Could all the pyros be involved in a competition, with Raider the judge?

After much research as to other possible targets, the team prepares to act upon being notified of a fire at one of these locations. A call comes in for a subdivision under construction, and they head out. There’s a fire on the golf course that Quantum contains. Achilles spots someone and pursues. Rachael does likewise and discovers it’s Heat Wave. Meanwhile Quantum is once again affected by Rainbow Raider and attacks Rachael. Achilles spots Raider and is affected again, so he covets Quantum’s clothing. Orichalcum gives up hope. Raider is affecting all of us but Rachael in some way, but Quantum freezes her as Achilles strips him. The villains flee. Eventually we shake off the effects and manage to catch Heat Wave, who spills the beans about the competition and their lair. Raider escapes.

We rush the lair and catch Firebug and Firefly unawares, easily capturing them. Raider never shows up there.
