DC Modern - Session 5 - 3/20/20

Here are your cat bites so you can have informed water cooler conversations

1. There have been a lot of anecdotal ninja sights this last few days. Gateway PD has logged more than 200 calls about these sightings. I know we are excited about the Kurosawa film festival but can we not behave like D&D rejects.

2. It has been 4 months since anyone has seen the “Big Three”. There has also been no talk of reforming the Justice League in their absence. So am I the only one thinking that age of Super Heroes is over?

3. During this period of absence Gotham gets the JSA; Metropolis has heroes fighting over it; and we get Bozo and his three ring circus. Now I am not one to scream sexism but the only city with a female protector gets watched over by a men’s only club save for one woman. I have seen a more convincing Woman at Harry’s on Drag Night.

And that is all you need to know.

From the Journal of Achilles

We give Daedelus’s Wings to Rachael (Flight 5).

We decide to start with Wonder Girl and the lasso and resurrection cult. Use Mr. T’s translation program to translate Kryptonian symbols. Represent Flamebird, life, resurrection. New set of symbols we find indicate a date and time. Date already passed, time 6:00 pm. Five of these warehouses lost power at that date and time for a few hours.

We check out those warehouses. At the first, we find the remnants of a circle of crystals on the floor with an outer ring of Kryptonian symbols. Inside are scorch marks. 17% of writing salvageable. We take pictures of it, a crystal, and a portion of the floor with the writing. 3 of the other warehouses are occupied. The last is full, but alarmed. We go back to base.

Orichalcum works out full symbol. It’s similar to Superman’s S-shield, but not quite the House of El. Inexpert job of the Resurrection symbol. Ash from scorch marks has mystic residue. Crystals are common quartz that have been shaped and tinted somehow. Coloration looks Kryptonian, but they are earth crystals.

Helena hasn’t heard from Wonder Girl. We left a message at JSA HQ for Power Girl. Fake crystals easy to find around town. These are not from Grandfather though, but he says “the Wop” on 3rd St. sells large quantities. He sold them to a “Phil Jones” who bought $500 of crystals two weeks ago.

The tracker Quantum put on the Staff of Hermes is gone, but the staff is still in the embassy vault. Dr. Tripod claims the staff is there/not there. It can travel on its own through space and time.

Personal ad response—meet tonight at midnight at Gateway Park. Nightshade meets us there and takes us to the Oblivion Bar. Shadowpact is still missing about 15 pieces of the Rock of Eternity.

Bartender tells us Spear of Destiny is in 1946 and was destroyed then. We could get it with Staff.

Helm of Nabu is with Elongated Man.

He can get us a candle of Neron.

Medusa Mask is in Khandaq with Black Adam.

Bell, wheel, jar in ruins of JLA satellite in orbit.

Mystic lantern with Jack o’ Lantern.

Nightshade offers to take us to the JLA satellite. We make plans to get air and then take a door to daylight hours. The bar can take us anywhere as long as we can get there. Nightshade takes us up there. We find the wheel, jar, and bell. Mordru shows up and attacks. It doesn’t go well, but Quantum paralyzes him. Nightshade appears and creates a portal that we all escape through. We show up in Gateway Park, superdehydrated. But we have the items, which we take back to the vault and the embassy.

We see a banner at the embassy indicating a sale with a crowd buying items. Tripod has sold, among other things, the Staff of Hermes. Video footage indicates Patty Kinkle, librarian, bought the staff. A bunch of other stuff is gone from the vault, including gangsters buying invisible shields and an invincible sword.
