DC Modern - Session 15 - 12/7/20

Cat Grant back from vacation.  First let me assure all our readers that last weeks Catbites was an abomination.  I have fired Penelope and black balled her from getting any kind of media job.  Please Penelopebites who ever heard of such a dumb idea.  So without further adieu here is all the News you need to know in easily digestible  CATBITES

In Metropolis today the Lex Luthor Presidential Library opens at Metropolis State University.  A star studded gala  despite Lex Luthor being under a cloud of suspicion concerning the EveryMan Project.  The Pete Ross Presidential Library is expected to open later this year.

What was set to be one of the greatest golf courses in the world future is in doubt after a blaze rips through several holes.  Seems our home town heroes could not be bothered to limit the fire damage as they had a slugfest with Firefly and Firebug.  Several homes on the 18th green that were under construction were also damaged.

Donna Troy, the former Wonder Girl and now former Troia, has stepped into the role of her mentor as Wonder Woman.  She will be based in Washington DC saying that Gateway was in the best of hands and she was not needed here.  This is what we get when we have a Millennial super heroes.

Ferdinand tells Achilles he has a phone call from Commissioner Hall, who wants us to protect General Immortus while he’s being transferred to the Rockies. A caravan of prison transfer vehicles is ready to take Immortus. Rachael rides with Immortus himself while the rest of us ride with the guards, each one in a different vehicle.

An hour in, one of the guard trucks explodes. It’s the Fearsome Five minus One. Rachael easily takes down Shimmer, while Orichalcum scuffles with Mammoth and Achilles takes on Psimon. Gizmo(?) takes down the suppression field around Immortus, but Rachael is on guard. Orichalcum takes Gizmo down, and Achilles takes down Psimon. Neutron shows up, and Quantum Plumber escapes the wreckage of the truck he was in. Achilles goes after Neutron and slices open his suit, releasing radiation everywhere. Achilles takes Neutron down, but Quantum nullifies the radiation and Neutron’s energy vanishes. Meanwhile the other three downed villains have vanished, leaving a strange pattern in the grass, while the whole team gangs up on Mammoth and takes him down.

Fortunately, Immortus is still captive, as now is Mammoth. We question Mammoth and find out they were headquartered in NYC within sight of the Statue of Liberty. Jinx used her magic to send them here.

Back at the embassy, Achilles adds the encounter to his epic poem, which Tripod almost immediately recites when interviewed on the news. Orichalcum discovers Achilles’ quill has been magicked to copy his writing. She uses the quill to write a bad poem.

Orichalcum examines what Gizmo used to weaken her armor during the fight and discovers a black diamond that fills her with rage that she’s able to suppress. She thinks it’s an Eclipso diamond, so she puts it in a lead box and stores it in the box.

Ferdinand delivers an envelope to Quantum that contains a message about when and where to meet Shaw. He meets with Shaw, who says the DEO is compromised. Quantum warns the rest of us to avoid the DEO and sends a warning letter to his mother.

The next morning, we find weird articles in the newspaper or on TV where the number 52 recurs constantly—52-car crash; 52 penguins stolen from the zoo; history of playing cards; etc. Orichalcum consults Grandfather about this, who tells her that our universe is center from which 51 other universes radiate. Previously there was an infinite number of universes, but the Great Crisis destroyed all but one. But the recent Crisis changed it so that there are now 52. Doppelgangers [like nuBruce] are the result. JSA was once in a different universe, as was the old Superman in the recent Crisis. Grandfather senses the black diamond on her and warns her that vengeance rests in the diamond and it will be sated.

News breaks that Black Adam is raging over Europe and North Africa concerning deaths of some close to him [though he doesn’t have an Eclipso face]. We go to help. We arrive in Piza as Black Adam is trying to strike Martian Manhunter with the tower. Achilles talks to him of pain and loss and tells him not to attack innocents. Achilles takes a punch from him without flinching, after which Black Adam flies off, and the Manhunter follows while we stay to clean up. We hear there was a battle over Egypt. We contact Donna, who asks us to come back to the States to help protect nuclear arsenals in the States from his possible attack. Battles against him continue for the next week until a contingent of heroes takes him out.
